New pickup delivers power, efficiency and value for Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY drivers

New from hood to hitch, the 2014 Silverado 1500 is engineered to be stronger, smarter and more capable than ever before for Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY area drivers

Base prices for the Silverado 1500 – regular cab, double cab, and crew cab – carry over from 2013. Corry-area buyers of all 2014 Silverado 1500s also will receive a standard scheduled maintenance program for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Silverado crew cabs with the available 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 arrived at Chevrolet dealers in May. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for crew cabs start at $32,710, including a $995 destination freight charge – the same as the 2013 model.

The crew cab will be joined this summer by a regular cab model and a new double cab Silverado, which replaces the extended cab. Also available this summer will be an all-new EcoTec3 V-6 with the most torque and highest towing rating of any standard V-6.

Coming later in 2013 are an all-new 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8, engineered to raise the bar for premium truck engines, and the High Country, a rugged, luxurious Silverado tailored to the growing market for high-end pickups.

The 2014 Silverado 1500 will be available in seven distinct trim levels. 2014 Silverado 1500 at a glance
EcoTec3 engines: Silverado 1500 will offer three all-new EcoTec3 engines – a 4.3L V-6 SAE-certified at 285 horsepower (212 kW) and 305 lb.-ft. of torque (413 Nm), a 5.3L V-8 certified at 355 horsepower (250 kW) and 383 lb.-ft. of torque (519 Nm), and later this year, a new 6.2L V-8.

All three EcoTec3 engines feature direct fuel injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing, a combination not found in competitive trucks. The engines also use a compact overhead-valve design and weight-saving components such as aluminum blocks and cylinder heads, to reduce mass, for additional energy savings.

All three provide the proven power, torque and dependability of a large-displacement engine, seamlessly switching to four-cylinder mode to save fuel during light-load driving. The 5.3L V-8 has EPA–estimated fuel economy of up to 23 mpg highway (2WD models), the best of any V-8 pickup, and better than Ford EcoBoost V-6.

Silverados equipped with the 4.3L V-6 will have towing ratings up to 7,200 pounds, the highest for any base V-6 in the segment. Silverados equipped with the 5.3L V-8 and the max towing package, available later this year, will have towing ratings of up to 11,500 pounds, which is more than any light-duty pickup currently on the market.

Every 2014 Buick model – Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore and Enclave – will be offered with a suite of available active safety systems that watch the front, side and rear of the vehicle to help prevent crashes.

Buick will be the only brand in the industry to offer Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Warning, and a Rear Vision Camera on every vehicle.

Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning are a pair of technologies that use a single forward-looking camera to read traffic and lane markers on the road ahead. Visual warnings and audible tones alert the driver to unsignaled lane changes or a slowed vehicle.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Warning use radar to watch spots the driver may not see – and provide visible and audible warnings to help prevent collisions.

When the vehicle is in reverse and the Rear Vision Camera is active, Rear Cross Traffic Alert will flash a red icon and directional arrow if another vehicle is approaching from either side, which is especially useful backing out of a tight driveway or parking space in a busy lot.

Side Blind Zone Alert detects other vehicles in a Buick’s blind spot and alerts the driver with a yellow icon on the glass of either side view mirror. If a turn signal is engaged while a vehicle is detected in the next lane, the icon flashes to discourage merging.

Every 2014 Chevrolet and Buick model offered by Crotty Chevrolet Buick will be covered by a new maintenance program that includes certain scheduled maintenance services for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

For most 2014 vehicles, Crotty Chevrolet Buick will complete an oil and filter change, four-wheel tire rotation, and conduct a 27-point vehicle inspection for owners under this program in accordance with their vehicle Owner’s Manual maintenance schedule and oil life monitoring system.

All five models in luxury brand’s showroom now share IIHS Top Safety Pick designation

The 2013 Encore luxury small crossover brings a smaller footprint and high efficiency to the Buick showroom, but the brand’s newest model maintains the commitment to safety, joining all other current Buicks as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2013 Top Safety Pick. The Encore with all-wheel drive also received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

With every model sharing the IIHS designation, Buick is one of just a few brands with a full line of 2013 Top Safety Picks. The Verano, Regal, LaCrosse and Enclave all have a NHTSA 5-star overall rating.

The IIHS tests vehicles to determine occupant protection in front, side, and rollover crashes, and specifically tests seats and head restraints for neck protection in rear impact crashes. To earn a 2013 Top Safety Pick designation, a vehicle must be rated “good” in all four tests.

The 2013 Encore luxury small crossover joins all other current Buicks as an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2013 Top Safety Pick. The Encore with all-wheel drive also received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

Chevrolet today unveiled the 2014 Malibu – a roomier, more refined and more efficient execution of its midsize sedan. Updated styling, a revised interior, a new 2.5L standard engine and suspension enhancements highlight the changes. It goes on sale this fall.

Malibu’s revised front-end appearance is influenced by the all-new Impala, creating a more cohesive look across Chevrolet’s sedan lineup. The front fascia features a new, more prominent lower grille and the hood extends down and over the leading edge of a narrower upper grille. The grille openings – with black grille texture – are wider and accented with chrome.

Inside, redesigned seats contribute to greater rear-seat space and greater comfort. The front seatbacks are shaped to improve rear-seat knee room, while new cushion sculpturing and revised cushion material allow passengers to sit deeper in the rear seats. Approximately half an inch was trimmed from the front of the rear seat cushion, for greater comfort behind passengers’ legs.

The Malibu’s redesigned center console has a longer armrest designed for greater comfort, along with a pair of cup holders and dedicated storage for two cell phones.

“We made changes within 18 months, demonstrating an unprecedented commitment to make the Malibu the best car it can be,” said Ken Kelzer, executive chief engineer, global full-size and midsize cars. “The 2014 Malibu has been engineered to deliver more precise ride and handling that is on par with more expensive sports sedans.”

More efficient, powerful powertrains
An all-new Ecotec 2.5L Intake Valve Lift Control DOHC four-cylinder engine with direct injection is the 2014 Malibu’s standard engine. Its variable intake valve actuation enhances efficiency and helps lower emissions, while also enhancing low-rpm torque, for a greater feeling of power at lower speeds. When the iVLC system operates in low-lift mode, the engine pumps only the air it needs to meet the driver’s demand. The system switches to high-lift mode at higher speeds or under heavy loads, providing the full output capability of the engine.

New start/stop technology shuts down the 2.5L engine to save fuel when the Malibu stops momentarily, such as at stoplights, contributing to an estimated 5-percent increase in city fuel economy. The engine automatically starts again when the driver takes his or her foot off the brake. An auxiliary battery powers electric accessories such as the climate system, power windows and radio during engine restarts.

The new 2.5L is SAE-certified at 196 horsepower (145 kW) and 186 lb-ft of torque (253 Nm). Revised transmission shift points and quicker shifts also enhance the feeling of performance – while delivering greater refinement.

Additionally, the 2014 Malibu’s available 2.0L turbo engine delivers nearly 14 percent more torque than its predecessor. It is SAE-certified at 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). New engine calibration and tuning account for the improvement, making the Malibu 2.0L turbo’s torque the best in the segment, even among competing six-cylinder-engines. The result is a stronger feeling of acceleration from a stop and a greater feeling of power on demand in almost all driving conditions.

The 2.0L turbo also produces an SAE-certified 259 horsepower (193 kW).

Chassis refinements
Chassis and suspension updates inspired by the all-new 2014 Impala also contribute to the 2014 Malibu’s more refined driving experience, including rebound springs that are internal to the struts. They enable more refined calibration of the dampers for a smoother overall ride, while also improving body roll control and weight transfer during acceleration or turning. That helps keep the wheels planted, contributing to a more precise, controlled feel – especially while cornering.

Fuel-saving electric power rack-and-pinion variable-effort power steering is standard and enables nearly effortless low-speed maneuvers and a higher degree of steering feel at higher speeds. Revised, higher-effort calibrations for 2014 were engineered to improve the overall steering feel. Also, the Malibu’s brake system has been revised to provide a more confident feel.

Additional chassis control technologies include four-channel anti-lock brakes, full-function traction control, four-corner electronic stability control, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist system, corner brake control, hydraulic brake fade assist and drag torque control.

Enhanced safety
New Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert safety features are offered, adding to the protection from a car that received a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score in the New Car Assessment Program from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a 2013 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Both are the highest ratings possible.

Malibu also comes with 10 standard air bags and an available rearview camera system.

Corry, Erie, Edinboro, and Warren area drivers of the new 2014 Chevrolet Impala will enjoy sweet sound and sweeter savings at the pump thanks to precision noise reduction and a new advanced valve train technology on the Ecotec 2.5L four-cylinder engine, arriving at Crotty Chevrolet Buick this month.

Chevrolet expects the 2.5L model to be a popular choice among Impala buyers. More than two-thirds of Chevrolet cars sold in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2013 had a four-cylinder engine.

“Chevrolet has provided Corry, Erie, Edinboro, and Warren-area buyers with a variety of engines, appealing to a wide variety of needs,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Crotty Chevrolet Buick’s customers now have three engines to choose from, inducing the 2.5L model that offers great fuel savings and a great starting price of $27,535.”

Chevrolet expects its new flagship sedan to be more fuel efficient, due in part to the 2.5L engine’s Intake Valve Lift Control technology.

Ecotec 2.5L four-cylinder engine

In older engines, valves operate strictly based on mechanical camshaft rotation, opening and closing the same way all the time. Chevy’s new system allows the valves to open and close by varied amounts and at different times depending on power demand to provide greater fuel efficiency or power.

When the technology operates in low-lift mode, the engine pumps only the air it needs to meet the driver’s demand. The system switches to high-lift mode at higher engine speeds or under heavy loads, providing the full output capability of the engine.

Impala’s 2.5L engine, which delivers SAE-certified 196 horsepower (146 kW) and 186 lb-ft of torque (252 Nm), achieves variable valve lift using an all-new rocker arm that switches between low and high lift intake cam profiles. The mechanism is actuated by an oil control valve through a dual-feed stationary hydraulic lash adjuster. It is the first of its kind for low friction roller-type finger-follower valvetrains in gasoline engines. The engine’s computer continuously selects the optimal lift profile based on conditions such as engine speed and load.

Intake Valve Lift Control works so seamlessly Corry, Erie, Edinboro, and Warren area drivers aren’t likely to notice it at all. What they will notice is a fuel economy improvement of up to one mile per gallon. The EPA estimated fuel economy for the 2014 Impala with the new 2.5L engine is 21 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

The redesigned large sedan’s 2.5L engine with direct injection is engineered to be one of the quietest and most refined in the segment. The development team reduced engine noise intensity by 40 percent by specifically targeting the 2.5L’s noise frequency signature. They pushed radiated noises into a higher frequency range well above 2,000 hertz, which is more pleasing to the ear – particularly in the high-load operating ranges where engine sound is most intense.

The refinement-enhancing changes and improvements over previous Ecotec engines ranged from the comparatively simple – such as integrating a sound-absorbing cover into the intake manifold and specifying quieter drive chains – to more fundamental architecture items, such as relocating the balance shafts from the cylinder block to a cassette within the oil pan.

Impala’s passengers get a quieter driving experience due in part to active noise cancelling technology and a more refined sound as the engine revs to its 7,000-rpm. 

Impala engineers focused on reducing the overall engine noise level and placing the remaining noise in a higher frequency range. No fastener, cover or internal engine part was left unexamined in their quest to make this engine one of the quietest in the industry.

Impala offers Corry, Erie, Edinboro, and Warren area buyers three fuel-efficient powertrains, including the 3.6L V-6, the new Ecotec 2.5L four-cylinder and the Ecotec 2.4L with eAssist.

 The all-new 2014 Silverado full-size pickup truck spent more development time in a wind tunnel than any Chevrolet pickup before it, resulting in design changes that benefits Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY area drivers in both fuel efficiency and interior quietness.

To achieve improved airflow, aerodynamic engineers examined every millimeter of the truck to find areas of improvement, debunking some popular myths along the way.

To study the way air passes over, under and around the Silverado, engineers used General Motors’ state-of-the-art Aerodynamics Lab, a 750-foot-long tunnel through which a 43-foot-diameter fan powered by a DC electric motor with the equivalent of 4,500 horsepower can generate winds of up to 138 mph.

“The engineers at Chevrolet are always looking for ways to improve the vehicles our customers love,” said John Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Their aerodynamic advancements are just one reason why the 2014 Silverado will be the most fuel-efficient V-8 pickup in the Crotty Chevrolet Buick showroom.”

A new air dam below the 2014 Silverado’s front bumper successfully reduces drag because it directs air toward the ground and away from the truck’s rough underbody. And Silverado’s  ducted flow path between the grille and radiator prevents air from swirling inside the truck’s front cavities.

Even the top of the Silverado’s tailgate and the center high-mounted stop light are optimized to guide air cleanly around the truck. And because engineers detected unwanted airflow between the cab and bed, new sealing has been added.

The pickup market has a great number of available aftermarket accessories, and GM engineers say those have varying impact on aerodynamics.  Add-ons like bug deflectors on the hood, wider tires or aftermarket bumpers can raise the drag coefficient, which is the measure of how air pushes on a vehicle as it moves down the road. The result: added noise and increased fuel consumption.

A long-disputed topic among truck owners is whether a tailgate raised or lowered is better for aerodynamics, but engineers say a tailgate in the up position is more aerodynamically efficient. As air flows over the truck, it falls over the cab and pushes forward on the rear of the truck. With the tailgate down, the benefits of that airflow are diminished.

So what accessories can Corry, Erie, Warren, and Jamestown, NY area truck owners add to help aerodynamics? Tonneau covers for the bed help smooth airflow over the truck, and engineers say soft covers are more beneficial than hard covers because they form to how the air wants to flow. When the all-new 2014 Chevy Silverado full-size pickup arrives at Crotty Chevrolet Buick, this summer, its standard 4.3L EcoTec V-6 it will offer the most torque of any standard V-6 in the segment – 305 lb-ft (413 Nm).

Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY area Silverado buyers will choose from three new, advanced EcoTec3 engines – a 5.3L available at launch, followed by the 4.3L and 6.2L versions available later this year. All are designed specifically for the high trailering and hauling demands unique to truck buyers.

Torque is the turning force that generates off-the-line acceleration and confident trailering performance. Silverado’s equipped with the 4.3L EcoTec3 V-6 will have trailering ratings up to 7,200 pounds (3,266 kg) for a regular cab, short bed, four-wheel-drive model – 500 pounds more than the most capable Ford F-150 3.7L and 700 pounds more than a Ram 1500 3.6L. Silverado’s standard V-6 produces an SAE-certified 285 horsepower (212 kW) and is matched with a proven, efficient six-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy estimates will be released later. 

Like Silverado’s optional 5.3L and 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8 engines, the new V-6 features three state-of-the-art technologies – direct injection, active fuel management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing – that have been proven and perfected through 6 million hours of computational analysis by engineers studying the combustion process. In all, 10 million CPU hours were spent refining and making the most of the Silverado’s EcoTec3 engines.

“The Sierra offers this technology in every EcoTec3 engines; no other truck maker can match it,” said John Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “And, because it’s a standard feature, Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY area drivers get this wonderful technology, regardless of what trim level they purchase.”

Although they share only a handful of parts with previous Silverado engines, the new EcoTec3 V-6 builds on experience gained from millions of trucks and billions of real-world customer miles resulting from a half-century of leadership in V-6 engine development.

Like the 2014 engine, the 4.3L V-6 introduced as standard equipment for Chevrolet half-ton pickups in 1985 used geometry and engineering from the brand’s proven Small Block V-8. As with today’s V-6, engineers studied the combustion chamber, developing “Vortec” technology that swirled the air and fuel inside the engine to create a more homogenous mix, improving power and efficiency. That engine was the basis for new generations of engines through the 2013 model year.
