The redesigned 2013 Buick Enclave luxury crossover is the brand’s best-selling model through the first quarter with retail sales up almost 40 percent. And it is a second-time-around choice for nearly four in 10 owners trading in a first-generation Enclave.

As it builds Buick brand loyalty, the Enclave also continues to pull in first-time Buick buyers as it has since being introduced in 2007.

“The new Enclave is the first model in the second generation of the modern, rejuvenated Buick brand,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick Marketing. “In previous years we’ve talked about the new, younger, luxury-minded buyers coming to Buick for the first time. With the redesigned Enclave, we’re still seeing those new buyers, but we’re now also seeing the buyers who gave us a try with the first Enclave stay with us.”

“The Enclave award-winning design, craftsmanship and technology has reintroduced Buick to a new generation of customers,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “With the redesign of the 2013 Enclave, we are seeing many of our current Enlcave customers upgrade to the new model while also selling to first time Enclave buyers.” [Read more...]

Front Center Air Bag Helps Enclave Achieve Five-Star Safety

Buick’s luxury crossover SUV is also IIHS 2013 Top Safety Pick

2013-Buick-Enclave-027-medium

The 2013 Buick Enclave, equipped with a standard front center air bag, has received the highest possible five-star overall vehicle score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program.

Previously, the luxury crossover SUV was also named a 2013 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

“Our customers are looking for state-of-the-art safety when buying a vehicle,” said Robert Crotty, VP for Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “With Enclave’s unmatched combination of safety systems, we’re confident it will not only meet but exceed the needs of Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY drivers.”

“Safety is a key consideration for all car buyers, and particularly when it comes to family-oriented luxury vehicles,” said Gay Kent, GM general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. “The Enclave is designed to provide excellent crash safety, and goes one step further by offering a front center air bag – an industry first in crash protection.”

The front center air bag is an inflatable restraint designed to help protect drivers and front passengers in far-side impact crashes where the affected occupant is on the opposite, non-struck side of the vehicle. When a severe impact occurs, the air bag deploys in milliseconds from the inboard side of the driver’s seat and inflates between the driver and front passenger, providing added protection for both front occupants.

Quiet Cabin Makes Buick LaCrosse a Better Listener

Speech engine picks up accents and dialects from IntelliLink voice commands
2013-Buick-LaCrosse-012-medium

When General Motors speech recognition engineer Robert Sims worked to develop one of the industry’s first in-car hands-free calling systems years ago, his goal was to make the call quality clear enough that his wife wouldn’t hang up on him.

Today, Buick’s IntelliLink system can do far more than place a call, and QuietTuning technologies like those in the LaCrosse luxury sedan make using voice controls easier for owners regardless of marital or relationship status.

QuietTuning is Buick’s comprehensive engineering process to reduce, block and absorb interior noise. For LaCrosse, that means features like laminated window glass, triple door seals and liquid applied sound deadening.

“There’s definitely an advantage when we’re developing voice controls in a quieter cabin,” said Sims. “The system’s ability to hear a command relies on SNR, or signal-to-noise ratio. If noise is extremely low like it is in the LaCrosse, the user’s voice, or signal, can be lower. In other words, a LaCrosse driver can easily speak to the IntelliLink system at a normal, conversational volume.”

QuietTuning Meets Exhaust Tuning with Buick Verano Turbo

Turbocharged engine sings sweeter for Corry, Warren and Erie PA drivers, without background noise

The Buick Verano has an exhaust note befitting a car capable of 0-60 mph acceleration in an estimated 6.2 seconds. The proper amount of growl works because of QuietTuning inside the car.

The Buick Verano has an exhaust note befitting a car capable of 0-60 mph acceleration in an estimated 6.2 seconds. The proper amount of growl works because of QuietTuning inside the car.

When the 250-hp Buick Verano Turbo luxury sedan was introduced at Crotty Chevrolet Buick in Corry, PA late last year, engineers knew an aggressive exhaust note was essential for a car capable of 0-60 mph acceleration in an estimated 6.2 seconds.

Yet that had to be balanced with delivering a quiet, comfortable driving experience for Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown area drivers – a core objective in the development of every new Buick model.

“Our local area Verano customers chose the Turbo, because they want to drive a vehicle with power,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “The new exhaust note creates a sound to complement that.”

It may seem like a cabin tuned for quietness is a difficult environment for sound waves to thrive, but the Verano actually made the job easier for GM vehicle performance engineers.

Without wind and road noise being prevalent, engineers could tune the Verano’s exhaust to have a sporty note without it being too loud.

2013 Buick Verano NHTSA collision test

The 2013 Buick Verano is shown in a NHTSA frontal collision test, one of three tests required to gain a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score rating.

The Buick Verano compact luxury sedan recently received a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Earlier this year, Verano was named a 2012 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Since the beginning of the 2012 model year, every Buick passenger car tested has received these highest possible ratings from both the NHTSA and IIHS.

“Our customers are looking for state-of-the-art safety when buying a vehicle,” said Robert Crotty, VP for Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “With Buick’s unmatched combination of safety systems, we’re confident that any Buick model we offer will meet the needs of Corry, Erie, Warren and Jamestown, NY drivers.”

Magic Magnets Give Buick Crossovers AWD Refinement

Drivetrain technology making all-wheel drive lighter, smoother and more responsive

2013 Buick Encore

Buick’s all-new luxury small crossover, the Encore, features an “Active On-Demand” all-wheel drive system similar to Enclave, which makes its operation imperceptible to the driver. It’s designed to give Encore the fluid drive characteristics and sure-footed traction by using a magnetic charge to engage a clutch at the rear axle preemptively when the vehicle is at rest.

When snow inevitably starts falling over the General Motors Proving Ground in Michigan this winter, Buick engineers will use the conditions to put the finishing touches on the Encore luxury small crossover. It arrives early next year at Crotty Chevrolet Buick in Corry, PA as the brand’s first entry into the burgeoning small crossover segment.

Encore’s “Active On-Demand” all-wheel drive is designed to give the vehicle the fluid drive characteristics and sure-footed traction Buick drivers expect but in a smaller, lighter package. Unlike traditional systems that engage all four drive wheels after slip is detected, Encore uses a magnetic charge to engage a clutch at the rear axle preemptively when the vehicle is at rest because slippage is most likely to occur just as the vehicle begins to move. If no slip is detected, a computer control automatically disengages the preemptive torque to the clutch once the Encore is underway, returning the system to a primarily front-drive operation.

“A Buick all-wheel drive system has to deliver the best traction possible, and it has to do it in a way that’s totally imperceptible to the driver,” said Robert Crotty of Crotty Chevrolet Buick. “Buick has engineered the Encore’s lightweight, responsive and refined system to deliver on the expectations of demanding luxury buyers.”
